Kaeng Krachan National Park

There was yet another day without enough wind to go kiteing, so Carlos and me met up at the kiteboarding center at around 7 and took off to the biggest national park in Thailand, Kaeng Krachan National park, close to the border of Burma.

It was quite a long drive, i took the taxi guy 2 hours to get there, and then we were just at the entrance.

After a while the asphalt road turned into a dirt road, and then into a really crappy dirt road. We were in the middle of the jungle and I felt a bit sorry for the guy that took us there, his car wasn’t really up for the challenge. I’m amazed we didn’t cause him a flat tyre.

First signs of life! Elephant poo. The park has a quite big elephant population. Sadly they don’t come out of the forest other than dusk and dawn, so we didn’t get any closer to the elephants than this. There’s supposed to be a small population of jaguars as well, but we didn’t see them either.

Finally we got really deep in the jungle, just a few kilometers from Burma. This stream had amazingly clear water with fish swimming in it, surrounded by super dense forest.
We trekked around this spot for a while, listened in to the sounds of the forest, and looking at the monkeys jumping from branch to branch, far up in the trees.

Some really wierd looking trees, looks like corkscrews!

Apart from the forest itself, the animal life was really amazing. There were hordes of butterflies flying around in different shapes and forms, following each other around and it created an effect of something that looked like long strings flying around in the air.

Yep, on the way back we stopped for checking the tyres. I’m glad the car didn’t break down out there :-)
